About my Background and Experience

I have always loved to read, both fiction and nonfiction, so majoring in English was a natural choice. As I worked through my Master's program at CSU, Chico, I came to believe strongly in the concepts of writing as a form of collective meaning-making and as a form of social action. I have taught composition and critical thinking at Butte College since 1996. In my spare time I love to partake in any of the performing arts, especially acting and directing small productions of modern drama.

About My Approach to Teaching

My current courses engage the themes of metacognition and justice. My motto for teaching is "Challenge and Support."

Information About My Courses

My face-to-face classes make extensive use of Canvas, Butte's course management system. A few assignments must be submitted via Canvas; most of the time, however, students have the choice whether to submit assignments via Canvas or hard copy. As of Spring 2020 I'm developing fully-online courses, but I understand that there is a huge variety of levels of student readiness to work completely online. I am choosing to be very flexible in consideration of this very sudden change to our lifestyles.
