Why Apply?

A common myth is that many students think they won't qualify for financial aid, but in reality, about
70% who apply do receive some assistance.

To seek aid for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 academic years:

  • students with a valid Social Security Number (SSN) should complete the FAFSA.
  • undocumented AB540 eligible students should complete the CADAA.

Pre-Workshop Application Guides

Create an FSA ID

An FSA ID is needed to access the FAFSA and electronically sign it. CLICK HERE to visit the FSA ID account creation page, then simply follow the directions. Make sure you verify your Mobile number and Email address in order to have multiple account recovery options should you lose your password.

If you are a dependent student, your parent(s) will need to create a separate FSA ID for themselves. For the 2024-2025 FAFSA, parents who do not have a social security number can NOW apply for an FSA ID by entering 000-00-0000 in the social security number field when prompted.

  • Incorrect application year. Complete the 2023-2024 financial aid year application if you are attending Fall 2023/Spring 2024 or the 2024-2025 financial aid application if you are attending Fall 2024/Spring 2025 terms.

  • Name does not match Social Security Card. Enter the name that is on your Social Security Card. NO nicknames. If parents do not have a SS#, use 000-00-0000.

  • Accidentially entering parent's income in the student income section. If you are a dependent student, do NOT enter parent's income in student's income section of the application.
  • Mistaking parent information for student. When the form says “you” or “your,” it is referring to the student, so make sure to enter your (the student’s) information. If the form is asking for your parent’s information, it will specify that in the question.

  • Incorrect income. Avoid a common error for reporting your income by using the IRS DRT on the FAFSA to transfer your tax information directly to the application.
  • Wrong parent income used. If parents are divorced/separated, use income of parent with whom you (the student) lives most of the time. If you cannot provide parental information you should contact the Financial Aid Office at (530)895-2311.
